PERSONAL DISCIPLINE AND ADHERENCE TO THE WHO SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: The Best Way to Deal with COVID-19 in Ghana.
With the ever-increasing global widespread of the deadly CORONAVIRUS which has hospitalized more than 198,000 people, claiming the precious lives of about 7900 worldwide, it is quite undoubtful that fears and panic have started creeping up in the Ghanaian citizenry as the country records seven (7) cases.
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in China would, however, implore every Ghanaian to stay calm and adhere to the safety precautions outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) to reduce the spread of the disease in the country.
The safety precautions and the internal measures taken by the Government such as the temporal closure of Churches and Schools and prohibition of all social gatherings are a step in the right direction, and we admonish every Ghanaian to subscribe to them with all discipline.
Casual outings should be reduced, and the right use of nose masks and hand sanitizers should be encouraged and not downplayed. Avoidance of handshakes and maintaining proper hygiene are measures worth implementing by every household to avoid the spread of the disease.
As a student Union, we hope every member will get in touch with their families and friends back home to encourage them and advise them by sharing their experiences with them. We believe this will go a long way to help in improving strict adherence to safety measures.
We would lastly request our able-bodied Government to tighten the security at all national borders and checkpoints to avoid further importation of the disease. We hope that the goodwill and the benevolence that the Government showed to we the students here in China would be extended toward the citizens in ensuring the safety of every Ghanaian. Let nobody panic, but rather obey and comply strictly with the safety measures, and all will be well in no time. Thank you.
