The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Union of Ghana Students – China (NUGS-China) is pleased to inform members of a significant milestone in the Union’s ongoing efforts to strengthen structured collaboration between Ghanaian scholars in China and Ghana’s private sector.
On January 2, 2026, NUGS-China formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the JOSPONG Group of Companies (JGC), one of Ghana’s most diversified and dynamic holding groups. The agreement marks the official commencement of a strategic partnership aimed at creating meaningful pathways for Ghanaian students and graduates in China to transition into employment, innovation, and enterprise.
A Strategic Partnership with a Pan-African Giant
The JOSPONG Group of Companies, established in 1995, has grown into a multinational conglomerate with over 76 subsidiaries operating across 15 key sectors of the economy, including Waste Management & Environmental Services, ICT & Technology, Banking & Financial Services, Automobile & Equipment, Agriculture, and Logistics. With a workforce exceeding 6,300 staff and total assets of over US$1.1 billion, JGC has become an indispensable partner in Ghana’s development, generating approximately 250,000 jobs and expanding its footprint across more than 25 African countries.
The Group’s flagship environmental subsidiary, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, now operates 36 functional plants covering solid waste, liquid waste, and medical waste treatment, positioning Ghana as a centre of industrial excellence on the African continent. The Group’s pan-African expansion has been widely praised, with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs describing Zoomlion’s expansion as “Africa’s third great movement” driven by Ghana.
Advancing the NUGS-China Talent and Incubation Vision
The discussions leading to the MoU advanced the positioning of the NUGS-China Talent Hub and Graduate Incubation Support Hub as strategic platforms for aligning China-trained Ghanaian students with industry needs, innovation pathways, and graduate transition support.
The delegation was led by Mr. Moses Arthur Baidoo, National President, with Mr. Usman Dawuda Kaku, National Vice President, and Ms. Janet Cobbinah, National Secretary-General, in attendance. The engagement successfully concluded with the formal signing of the MoU, establishing a framework for collaboration across several key areas, including:
- Internship and Graduate Recruitment: Creating structured opportunities for Ghanaian students in China to gain practical industry experience within JGC’s extensive network of subsidiaries.
- Mentorship and Capacity Building: Connecting students with experienced professionals across the Group’s diverse sectors, including waste management, ICT, agriculture, and finance.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support: Leveraging JGC’s resources and expertise to support graduate-led ventures and innovation projects emerging from Chinese universities.
- Research and Industry-Academia Linkages: Facilitating collaboration between Ghanaian scholars in China and JGC’s technical teams on projects aligned with national development priorities.
A Continuing Commitment to Members
The MoU with the Jospong Group of Companies represents a significant step forward in NUGS-China’s mission to serve as a bridge between Ghanaian students, Chinese institutions, and Africa-oriented enterprises.
The NEC will continue its engagement with other institutes, agencies, and private sector partners to expand opportunities for members. The Union will constantly update members on all positive responses and emerging opportunities.
