The National Union of Ghana Students in China (NUGS-China) is proud to announce a significant milestone in its ongoing collaboration with the JOSPONG Group of Companies. Through the Union’s Talent Hub and Graduate Incubation Support Hub, five exceptional members were selected to attend the prestigious IFAT Shanghai Environmental Technology Conference, one of the world’s leading trade fairs for environmental technologies.

The conference, organized by JOSPONG Group, provided the selected students with invaluable exposure to global environmental technology, industry-leading innovations, and unparalleled networking opportunities with professionals and organizations from around the world.

A Transformative Experience for Members

IFAT Shanghai, part of the globally recognized IFAT series, is a premier platform showcasing cutting-edge solutions in waste management, water treatment, air pollution control, and resource efficiency. The conference brings together industry leaders, technology innovators, policymakers, and researchers to address the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.

For the five NUGS-China members selected to attend, the experience was transformative. They had the opportunity to:

  • Engage with Global Experts: Interact with industry leaders, environmental scientists, and technology innovators from across the world
  • Explore Cutting-Edge Technologies: Witness firsthand the latest advancements in environmental technology, waste management, and sustainable solutions
  • Build Professional Networks: Connect with potential employers, mentors, and collaborators from leading organizations in the environmental sector
  • Gain Industry Insights: Learn about emerging trends, market opportunities, and best practices in environmental sustainability

This exposure directly aligns with the objectives of the Talent Hub, which seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical industry experience by creating structured pathways for students to access professional opportunities.

Strengthening the NUGS-JOSPONG Partnership

The selection of five members to attend IFAT Shanghai demonstrates the tangible benefits of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NUGS-China and the JOSPONG Group of Companies on January 2, 2026. The partnership, which operates under JOSPONG’s GRAIN (Global Research, Advisory and Innovation Network) initiative, is designed to create meaningful opportunities for Ghanaian students and graduates in China.

The IFAT Shanghai attendance represents a key deliverable of this collaboration, showcasing how the partnership translates into real-world experiences for members. The conference provided a platform for NUGS-China members to gain the technical knowledge, professional networks, and industry exposure needed to become globally competitive talents ready to contribute to Ghana’s and Africa’s development.

Expanding Internship Opportunities Nationwide

In addition to the IFAT Shanghai opportunity, NUGS-China has made significant progress in expanding internship opportunities for members across the country. Through the Union’s Memorandum of Understanding with JOSPONG Group and the support of the Ghana Embassy, NUGS-China has secured internship intention slots for students in Hangzhou and across the larger national body.

This expansion means that opportunities are no longer limited to a single location or institution. Members nationwide can now access structured internship placements that align with their academic backgrounds, career interests, and professional aspirations.

A Vision for Sustainable Impact

The NUGS-China Talent Hub and Graduate Incubation Support Hub are designed to create a continuous pipeline that moves a student from classroom learning through practical industry exposure to either skilled employment or entrepreneurship.

The IFAT Shanghai attendance and the secured internship slots represent the realization of this vision. Members are gaining:

  • Practical Industry Experience: Hands-on exposure to global environmental technology
  • Professional Networks: Connections with industry leaders and potential employers
  • Global Competitiveness: Understanding of international standards and best practices
  • Innovation Pathways: Insights into emerging technologies and market opportunities
