The NUGS-China mentorship series organized in collaboration with the Ghana Mission in Beijing closed another chapter on May 9 with another Colossus in Ghana politics.
The virtual meeting, which was dubbed “A dialogue with Hon. Kennedy Agyapong”, featured one of Ghana’s outspoken personalities in politics, businessman, and a Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency of Ghana, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. His invitation comes a week after the deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Adutwum was hosted on the same program.
The program, which seeks to educate mainly Ghanaian students and ex-pats in China on keys to individual success, nationalism, and financial independence is an initiative of H.E. Edward Boateng, Ghana’s Ambassador to China, and the leadership of the NUGS-China.
To grace the occasion, the Ambassador himself, H.E. Edward Boateng, and some staff members at the Ghana Mission, Hon. Felix Gyawu Addo, President of the Union and his executives, Hon. Benjamin Baffoe Kwapong, former president of the Union, and the entire leadership of the Ghanaian community in China joined the over 500 Ghanaian youth that had assembled on zoom.
Being the first-ever televised NUGS-China program, the event which also aired on NET2 TV, Facebook, and YouTube, witnessed over 6000 online participants (live streamers) from all over the world on Saturday.
Addressing the youth, the Hon. MP for Assin Central advocated for the need of Ghanaians in the diaspora to dream of financial freedom and self-sufficiency in the early stages of their lives. The thought of economic independence, he advised, should ignite the spirit of entrepreneurship, investment, and savings which will catapult/propel the youth to financial freedom. His narrative about his personal experience in America called for resilience, hard work and determination, and self-control at the expense of self-gratification, indulgences and extravagance that waste away financial resources.
Recounting some of the business ventures and investment opportunities in Ghana, the CEO of NET2 TV, advised the youth in China to exploit all avenues in bringing investors from China to Ghana to help in the development of the nation and ensure their economic liberty. He, moreover, advised the youth to be sincere, honest ,and truthful to the foreign investors anyone may bring into the country to ensure the continuity of the operations of these companies in Ghana.
Asked on how he manages to criticize both opponents and political allies, the outspoken billionaire, revealed that, his motivation has always been the development and the wellbeing of Ghana and the citizenry. However, to amass the courage to ‘speak your mind’ he expressed, wealth plays an important role. As he was ending his session, the Hon MP thanked the Union and most importantly the Ambassador for such ingenuity in organizing these virtual mentorship series for Ghanaians in the diaspora. He revealed that H.E. Edward Boateng is the first head of any Ghana Mission to implement such initiative which is worth emulating by other Mission Heads.
The dialogue ended with a final address from the Ambassador, who thanked the students, and the entire audience for their participation. He also commended the technical team of NET2 tv for helping to stream the program online. He expressed his ultimate gratitude to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for honouring the invitation to advise the youth in the diaspora.
