The National Union of Ghana Students in China (NUGS-China) has taken a significant step forward in its mission to create professional and academic pathways for its members, following a strategic engagement at the World Geospatial Information Home (世界地信之家) in Deqing Geospatial Information Town, Zhejiang Province.
The engagement took place on February 6, 2026, during the “Digital Intelligence for China-Africa Industry Cooperation Seminar” (“数智中非”产业合作对接会). The seminar was jointly organized by the Zhejiang-Africa Service Center and the Deqing Geospatial Information Town Science and Technology Workers Association, under the guidance of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce and with support from various government and industry bodies. This gathering marked a pivotal moment for NUGS-China as it continues to expand partnerships and create new opportunities for its members.
NUGS-China Representation
NUGS-China was ably represented by the National Financial Controller, Grace Selase Abra Ewedanu, and the Hangzhou Chapter President, Alhassan Abdul-Sobbur Maltiti. Their presence underscored the Union’s commitment to building meaningful collaborations that create academic, professional, and innovation-driven opportunities for Ghanaian students across China.
The Union extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Teddy Guh of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), whose dedication to Ghanaian students in China was instrumental in facilitating NUGS-China’s participation. Gratitude is also extended to Mr. Hans Ni (倪涵), President of the Deqing Association for Geospatial Professionals, for warmly welcoming the delegation and connecting the Union with key industry platforms and enterprises.
Exploring Partnerships for NUGS Initiatives
The seminar brought together enterprise representatives from across China and delegates from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Africa. Discussions spanned a wide range of sectors, including geospatial technology, digital innovation, sustainable energy, smart agriculture, and the low-altitude economy.
Of particular relevance to NUGS-China were dialogues with the World Geospatial Information Home and leading tech companies regarding potential collaboration in:
- Student capacity building and professional training
- Internships and industrial exposure programs
- Research and innovation partnerships
- Entrepreneurship support and startup incubation
- Africa-focused development projects involving Ghanaian youth
Ghana’s Voice at the Table
A key highlight of the seminar was a presentation by Mr. Teddy Guh on “Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Policy and Investment Opportunities.” Mr. Guh emphasized his commitment to supporting Ghanaian students in China and expressed a strong willingness to guide NUGS-China in fostering industry-academia-student collaborations.
Strengthening China-Africa Cooperation
The event also featured insights from the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre, leading Chinese companies operating or expanding into Africa, and African representatives sharing market needs and partnership prospects. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed during the conference, reflecting tangible progress in China-Africa cooperation across technology, education, and sustainable development.
Looking Ahead
This engagement represents an important milestone in NUGS-China’s ongoing effort to serve as a bridge between Ghanaian students, Chinese institutions, and Africa-oriented enterprises. The Union will actively follow up on the connections made to explore how its initiatives, including the Talent Hub and Graduate Incubation Support Hub, can benefit from these emerging partnerships.
NUGS-China remains steadfast in its mission to advance the academic, professional, and developmental interests of all Ghanaian students in China. Members are encouraged to stay engaged and watch for further announcements as these collaborations develop.
