The National Union of Ghana Students in China (NUGS-China) is pleased to introduce members to a transformative initiative that is set to deepen the collaboration between the Union and the JOSPONG Group of Companies (JGC): the Global Research, Advisory and Innovation Network (GRAIN).
Following the landmark signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JGC on January 2, 2026, the partnership is now being operationalized through GRAIN. This initiative represents a significant step forward in NUGS-China’s mission to bridge academic expertise with industry opportunities, strengthening the entrepreneurial and professional development ecosystem for members.
NUGS-China and GRAIN: A Strategic Partnership
NUGS-China is collaborating with the JOSPONG Group through the Talent Hub and Graduate Incubation Support Hub under the GRAIN initiative. This partnership directly aligns with the Union’s broader initiative to bridge academic expertise with industry opportunities, strengthening the entrepreneurial and professional development ecosystem for members.
Through GRAIN, NUGS-China members will have access to:
- Global Network: Connection to a worldwide network of students, alumni, and professionals
- Research Opportunities: Participation in cutting-edge research and innovation projects
- Advisory Roles: Engagement in consultancy syndicates for complex assignments

What is GRAIN?
GRAIN is a strategic initiative being established by the JOSPONG Group of Companies to advance sustainable development, innovation, and industrial transformation across Africa. It is designed to function as both an internal innovation pipeline for JGC and a globally competitive consultancy platform that offers technical advisory, feasibility studies, strategic plans, investment proposals, and innovation support to various entities.
The network will drive JOSPONG’s global expansion and provide critical support for the Group’s operations across the continent. As the JOSPONG Group continues to expand its footprint across more than 25 African countries, GRAIN will serve as the engine that powers this growth through research, innovation, and strategic advisory.
GRAIN’s Core Mandate
The initiative is built around five core objectives:
- Global Network: Coordinate students, alumni, and professionals to mobilize knowledge and expertise across borders.
- RIC Bank Development: Operate a centralized platform for research, data, and advisory outputs, serving as a structured repository for knowledge products that bridge academia and industry.
- Consultancy Syndicates: Organize teams for complex, multi-sector assignments, bringing together diverse expertise to tackle Africa’s most pressing challenges.
- Bankable Project Development: Design and deliver bankable projects aligned with international financing standards, ensuring sustainability and investment readiness.
- Innovation Translation: Convert research into implementable projects and viable businesses, ensuring that academic ideas do not remain confined to the classroom.
Thematic Areas of Focus
GRAIN organizes its research and innovation activities into thematic clusters that guide collaboration and business intelligence. These include:
- ICT & Smart Solutions: Leveraging technology to drive efficiency and innovation
- Environment & Sanitation: Advancing sustainable waste management and environmental protection

Structure and Governance
GRAIN operates through a well-defined structure that ensures efficient operation and strategic alignment:
- GRAIN Chapters: The primary source of ideas, research, and expertise, drawing on a global network of students, alumni, and professionals.
- Coordinating Centre: The operational hub that provides governance and strategic direction. It is an independent entity under the Executive Chairman that manages GRAIN activities globally, operates the RIC Bank, and translates ideas into projects.
- ARIC (Research, Innovation and Consultancy): Oversees GRAIN operations, managing research and innovation activities.
- JOSPONG International Business (JIB): Facilitates international relationships and market access.
The Research, Innovation and Consultancy (RIC) Bank
Central to GRAIN is the RIC Bank, a digital platform that serves as a centralized knowledge hub. It hosts and curates a wide range of outputs, from academic research to bankable project documentation and market intelligence. The RIC Bank supports strategic planning and innovation by providing a structured delivery system for research outputs, data intelligence, and strategic advisory products.
Business Development, Innovation and Consultancy (BDIC) Unit
The BDIC unit, within the Coordinating Centre, serves as GRAIN’s outward-facing arm. Its responsibilities include:
- Scouting Opportunities and Forging Partnerships: Proactive engagement with clients and partners
- Project Structuring: Conceptualizing innovative interventions
- Funding Mobilization: Supporting access to financing
- Implementation Support: Advisory through execution phases
