On the 7th of March 2026, the Deqing Government, in collaboration with other institutions in Deqing such as the Word Geo-spatial Information Home, Deqing, QianQian Travel Agency and the Deqing Volunteer Service, welcomed the members of the NUGS Hangzhou Chapter on an all expenses paid tour of a few locations in Deqing,  including factories and museums.

Our first stop was the Deqing County Museum where we learned about the culture of Deqing, from the past to its present, and also learned what the government of Deqing hopes its future will be. Deqing Volunteer Service also carried out interviews with a couple of members, as seen in the picture below.

The next event was the meeting with the representatives of the organisations that had come together to make our tour possible. In this meeting, Chapter members and Chinese representatives introduced themselves to one another. MOUs were signed between the QianQian Travel Agency and the World

Geo-spatial Information Home, a move to foster friendly relations between organisations in Deqing and Ghanaian students in China as a whole, not just in Hangzhou.

After the MOUs were signed, we went to a couple of other places including a Museum dedicated to the Pearl farming history of Deqing. We learnt about how pearl farming was started in Deqing and how the UN recognises Deqing as the start of pearl farming in history.

Our next stop was to Wu’s Medical Home where we got a brief glimpse into the workings of one of the largest manufacturers of progressive medical healing equipment.

Our second to last stop was to a growing roofing sheets factory. What makes these roofing sheets unique is that even when it’s raining, people inside whatever building they are on top of will not hear it.. All members received the business card of the owner of the factory who let us know there is a large market for these roofing sheets – especially in Nigeria.

The last atop on our tour was to the World Geo-spatial Information Home – where it all began. We were given a tour of the office by Mr Hans  Ni, the Chinese representative, who was very warm and enthusiastic towards us the whole day and Mr Teddy Guh, the Representative of the Land Surveyors.
Association in Ghana working in the World Geo-spatial Information Home. Mr Guh and Mr Ni were big contributors towards the planning of this event.

When our tour ended, it was time for a casual dinner which was held in  a location provided by the owner of QianQian Travel Agency, Ms White. The night ended on a very fun, energetic note and all members were happy with the day’s events.

In all, this day brought many benefits to not only the Hangzhou Chapter but to all members of NUGS China, especially concerning the MOUs signed which will be advantageous to us all.
