It has come to the notice of the National Executive Committee of NUGS-China that one Francis Antwi Kwabena who is in Beijing-China, has posted several pictures of himself on Facebook with foodstuff claiming it is from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and expressing thanks to the Ministry for it on behalf of Ghanaian students in Hubei.
The NEC condemns this shameful, insensitive, distasteful and irresponsible act displayed by the said individual. The emotional and psychological trauma of students in China during this challenging moment of COVID-19 outbreak is not something that the Union would want any individual to downplay or belittle.
Mr Francis Antwi Kwabena is not the spokesperson for Ghanaian students in China. The members of NUGS-China are very disappointed that Mr Antwi went to the Ghana Mission-Beijing to do this. He is not in Hubei province and is not privy to the exact conditions of the Ghanaian students in this province; therefore, his comments and activities should be treated with all the contempt it deserves.
For the records, the National Executive Committee of NUGS-China has not received any foodstuff on behalf of our members from the Ghana Mission-Beijing. As and when foodstuffs are received, the members and the general public would be informed.
The Ghana Mission has not done us any good by allowing this to happen, and we find it unfortunate and disrespectful. As a Union, we ask the Mission to come out with a statement to explain the
circumstances under which an individual (who is not an embassy staff) was allowed access to foodstuff purporting to be for students in Hubei.
